A conduit for quality pediatric prehospital data and research

What is the EDC

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) – an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – established the EDC to coordinate the collection and analysis of prehospital and emergency department clinical data to guide improvements in pediatric care by providing evidence-based best practices. We are here to help Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) State Partnership Program Grantees

so they can improve the quality of emergency care for children in their state or territory.

Our GOAL is to use data to improve care for children and we are committed to improving the quality of care in EMS systems with data.

Providing Technical Assistance

We are the center that provides data-related technical assistance to EMSC State Partnership grantees. We primarily work with EMSC Program Managers and Project Directors. Located at the University of Utah School of Medicine, we were created in 1995 through a cooperative agreement with the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) of HRSA. At the time of creation, we were known as the National EMSC Data Analysis Resource Center (NEDARC) and rebranded as the EMSC Data Center (EDC) in 2022.

Our technical assistance has evolved and expanded over time and in accordance with EMSC Program priorities. This technical assistance is now primarily focused on assisting EMSC grantees in collecting data for the EMSC Program’s Performance Measures and for national quality improvement initiatives such as the National Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project (PPRP) with prehospital agencies and the National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) with hospital EDs.

We help EMSC grantees use this data for improving the pediatric readiness of prehospital agencies and hospital EDs to treat and care for pediatric patients.

While TA is a large part of what we do, we have a unique and talented group of individuals who make up our team. Check out the roles and skills of each member of our team.
